romantic and elegant with their picnic of cheese and fruit and pellegrino,
carefree and fun with their skateboards and converse,
self-proclaimed apple geeks with their iphones.
i was able to take lots of deep breaths during their session. i love when they're like that. this was so them.
we went to the Rancho Santa Margarita lake and they had their picnic and then longboarded and skateboarded around the lake while i tried to catch up with them. :) so good! cannot WAIT for the wedding that is coming up!
---- shan!
it was kind of beautifullly forced upon me,
because i won the trip through a raffle at my church!
out of 800 tickets mine was magically chosen.
rosanna and i had been wearing neon orange all weekend,
and when they asked who i'd be bringing on the trip i said:
the other girl in orange!
everyone cheered.

and,
oops!
we both wore pink pants the whole time.

and i love giving people my huge camera and letting them work their own magic.
usually the photo is unflattering, awkward, and awful,
and i never make them re-take it.
i love just living with what comes out.
besides eating at taco temple,
we also watched lots of trashy TV and visited the elephant seals.
the guy next to us (70 years old) was flirting with a 40 year old lady,
so instead of ruin their MOMENT i took this one myself.
no seals, which is probably good since it's mating season.

middle-of-the-week vacation,
the life of photographing weddings :) :) :)
my friday is your monday. where do you come up with this stuff.
the last photo makes me feel like ro is smelling oranges blowing in the wind while your heads are sticking out of a car window.
(02.05.10 @ 05:14 PM)awwww! i live in san luis obispo but am from southern cali originally :)
hope you loved your visit and the central coast!
jennifer
YAY for free vacations! Love the images. Hope you guys had a ball!
(02.05.10 @ 08:15 PM)
we had to look GOOD.
professional & lovely,
something that wasn't a dead giveaway that we were fanatics.
unfortunately we had no clue that at JPL everyone just wears jeans and polo shirts...
so our heels and skirts and headbands and makeup definitely gave us away as trying a bit too hard.
but i'm okay with that,
because we had a blast.
a few weeks ago, our neighbor David gave rosanna, rox and i our own private tour of JPL.
lots of people have asked me what JPL is...
and in case you're in that camp, think NASA!
space!
Jet Propulsion Laboratory!
think, DREAM COME TRUE IF YOU ARE ME!
so we all woke up at 8am,
got our JPL outifts on,
and freaked out as we drove there.
but then we stopped and wondered,
would the tour be.... GOOD??
would we actually get to see things?
when the first thing we saw was these guys in all white suits MAKING a spacecraft,
we knew that YES. this would be good.

no more words.
just smiles.
:)
shannon
lucky! and that roommate picture turned out great!
(01.29.10 @ 01:21 PM)AHH! I'm in love with NASA & SPACE! seriously so jealous.. but I totally went there as a kid on a field trip! but wish I could go again! the pics are awesome & I miss you :)
(01.29.10 @ 03:02 PM)roommate picture not so great do I have pink eye?
JPL however life changing....perhaps my eye was read from crying?
(01.29.10 @ 06:31 PM)yeah ro--- you kind of look cross eyed. oops.......... people know how pretty you are from the other million posts i've done about you though. right everyone?
(01.29.10 @ 06:42 PM)so totally rad. completely. utterly. RAD. thank you for sharing! what a blessed neighbor and adventure! :)
(01.30.10 @ 02:15 PM)Fantastic! I remember loving field trips when I was in elementary school, but who takes a field trip as an adult!? You do! I've also walked by and around JPL and had a lot of X-Files flashes while doing so... but you went IN the place! I'm in awe!
(01.31.10 @ 02:14 PM)do you remember Amber... Eli's ex-girlfriend who married Chris's brother? Her dad worked at JPL for a long time -- I think he's retired now though.
I'm so glad you girls had this roommate experience together!
(02.01.10 @ 01:42 PM)It's good to know what kinda guys turn Ro on: guys in white suits.
Of all the JPL pics here, the best are of you guys, ahem, gals: y'all look so angelic & innocent!
this is so random...but when i was little i totally wanted to be an astronaut. i loved loved loved apollo 13 and went to shuttle launches as a kid. i'm jealous that you got to see this! BUT, it did remind me that my mother-in-law got me the HBO miniseries "from the earth to the moon" DVD set for Christmas...sooooo, i think i'll get working on that tonight. :)
(02.06.10 @ 02:49 PM)
she found me through the grey likes weddings blog,
and told me when we first met that she has dreamed of having her turn for awesome photos!
it was so fun to get to give them to her!!
and lets talk about brian.
makes robots for a living,
loves alicyn like there's no tomorrow,
and is an all around amazing guy.
we went to the la brea tar pits for their engagement session,
which gave us so much to explore and experience.
SO RAD,

she made it,

alicyn! hot hot hot pretty pretty pretty pretty. YOU ARE A SHINING STAR.

(fave to the max. energy and emotion are what matter, not technicalities like focus------)

FYI: alicyn likes astronaut ice cream so much she eats in in bed. this is one of the many reasons i like her. another reason is because she brought us each our own. points to the max! space dinosaur themed engagement session.................... SAY YES!

#1, the burrito motivation worked!
#2, amazing location choice,
#3, queen mary here we come!!
so much love!
shannon

(01.28.10 @ 03:06 PM)oh and we went with tacos instead of burritos ----> http://www.yelp.com/biz/skys-gourmet-tacos-los-angeles
(01.28.10 @ 03:08 PM)Beautiful!!!!!!!!!! as usual. Love the space-paleontology theme :-). That hat is adorable!
(01.28.10 @ 04:30 PM)space dinosaurs? was this woman following us around in high school, taking notes?
(01.29.10 @ 12:48 AM)shannon.. i loved seeing u lastnight and i LOOOVE your little bird u are going to get! AND I LOOOOOVE these pics u took.. great!
(02.01.10 @ 12:40 PM)
sadly, both ro and rox had to move out to prepare their lives for grad school.
that means that two new roommates moved in-------
and that i moved into my own room.
it was the perfect solution to a situation that seemed dismal for a while.
rose and i have been roommates for years,
shared a room for years,
done life together for years.
moving to my own space has been a good fresh start,
especially since i get to wake up to jellyfish every morning.
my friend claire made them for me,
and the jellyfish/white blanket combo makes me feel like i'm in an underwater haven at all times.
obsessed :)
the dresser from the pink plum thrift shop in pasadena,
and the jellyfish are handmade by claire!
beautiful!
(01.27.10 @ 01:34 PM)wow. that thing is CLEAN!
(01.27.10 @ 08:09 PM)those jellyfish are awesome! and that blanket looks so soft!
(01.28.10 @ 10:37 AM)your wall color is one i would have never picked, but love! it casts such an ethereal light. :)
(01.28.10 @ 12:13 PM)ha--------- yeah, the wall color came with the place! the whole house is light pink. at first i kind of hated it, now i am in love with it.
(01.28.10 @ 12:23 PM)mind = blown.
i have that blanket. can't wait for you to cuddle in it when you VISIT!
claire: want some jellies too... pLEASE!
(01.29.10 @ 05:43 PM)
i would like to let you all know that yes! full time job,
this is what i do,
i peel up the layers of everyday life,
explore it,
photograph it,
and usually on the weekends i'm doing that at a wedding.
i love it because i love people and life,
i love it because even though there's a lot of repetition there's also a lot of surprise
i love it because its exciting to have the challenge of somehow capturing the day in a way that is simple and lovely and fresh and fun.
the photo is by stephen hernandez------------------ my 2nd photographer at beth and todd's wedds!
too cute. :) when i was a wedding coordinator i loved the repetition/surprise aspect, too. it was like it was all pretty routine, but the random idiosyncrasies were what made the night fun and a challenge. yay!
(01.26.10 @ 06:44 PM)FIRST THOUGHT: 'Engaged?! She doesn't even have a boyfriend!'
hi :)
(01.26.10 @ 10:55 PM)
i am on the road to adopting a bird.
i think i have about 50 fake ones all around my house,
in addition to this entire blog being bird themed.
i love feathers and wings and nests and birds.
a few months ago i was inspired to adopt a real one-----
did research
found Parrots First in LA,
and fell in love with this little cockatiel that was left abandoned on the side of the road.
i had an appointment to go see him last week,
but he was in a small accident and got a broken wing.
this week he was able to be visited,
and i melted as soon as i saw his little red cast.
sling?
cast?
wrap?
anyway--------
his FOSTER parents have many many many birds,
which fascinated me to the core.
i have never seen so many in one home.
amazing.
definitely couldn't handle anything bigger than a cockatiel.....
but hey.
they were beautiful.
now----- if for some reason it doesn't happen....
i'm just warning you....
(and my heart)
that this is not for sure yet.
only exploring the idea.
:)
lets hope practicality doesnt get the best of me.
I hope it works out! My boyfriend has one that sings the Imperial March and the Charge sports song. Pretty impressive little birds, those cockatiels.
(01.24.10 @ 07:15 PM)DON'T DO IT. I say, stick with the fake ones. They may be pretty but think about them tweeting ALL THE TIME and pooping and just making a big mess in general. I hadto birdsit for some people once -- worst experience of my life. But that's just my opinion. If you love them, embrace their unlovelinesses.
(01.24.10 @ 08:44 PM)even though i don't like birds (and will be forced into a hotel when i visit), i gotta admit, frank, the one wearing a wool sweater, is cute!!!
(01.24.10 @ 10:11 PM)i, am willing to embrace the loud tweets and the poop and the mess. for multiple reasons, number 1= i feel like this is meant to be.
(01.24.10 @ 10:13 PM)eh, practicality is so over-rated! if you feel like it was meant to be...what can be more compelling that that?? :)
(01.25.10 @ 04:53 AM)so cute!!! i've never thought about having a bird, but your pictures almost make me want one too :)
(01.25.10 @ 10:47 AM)i want to sign that cast.
and then be friends with Cosmo for life.
(Cosmo? or Cosmos?)
I love them all! I think Cosmo is half Cardinal...no? It's kind of like two birds in one! Shannon you will be the best mama ever to Cosmo! I can see him now sitting on your shoulder keeping your heart warm while you tirelessly edit.
(01.26.10 @ 07:26 AM)Wow. An audible aww.. just escaped me. I really really like the matisse one. And that red cast? Too cute. Go for it!
(01.28.10 @ 09:55 AM)shannon..U MUST GET HIM!! NOO IFS ANDS OR BUTTS!!!!
(02.01.10 @ 12:44 PM)
