one of my favorite parts of the day is when the mailman comes. i hear him opening up our metal mailbox, and i literally hide and peek out the window to see when he's gone, then i sprint downstairs, praying i will get something good.  today all i got was a student loan bill.  not a good mail day. BUT! yesterday was a good one.  postcard from rosanna, $20 cash (first time i've received cash in the mail), and one more thing that i forget. but it was good. promise.

and.
it will be a good mail day for about 7 or 8 people soon....
just sent out lots of wedding CD's and letters and surprises.
one of my favorite parts about my wedding biz biz is doing my own packaging....!
i find joy in making things simple and lovely with simple and lovely things like string and tape.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
and just in case you're dying to know,
fun tape, is from cutetape.com, we love their url.
stickers, from zazzle.com.  the quality is okay.... i want to try someone else next time. but it works.
those white boxes are from rice studio, love them.
and my little address stamp is from overnightprints.com!

Just so you know, if I lived in your home I would be excited to raid your mail. In a not-super-awkward-and-intrusive way, but in a way that I'd want to be there when you opened all your fun packages because you get adorable things in the mail.

Packages are THE BEST. Especially when you don't know (or forget) they're coming. And thanks for the stationary store tips! I LOVE that tape. I've also seen a bunch of etsy stores that sell it.

so what's your default?
how do you show up in life?
what mode of being is most comfortable for you?
my comfort zone is where things are happy and fun.
spaces that feel quiet can be hard for me.
i need energy, fun, life, joy.

i used to approach photo sessions with the mentality that i had to be the one to bring out energy from people, and that was basically my goal: ENERGY.

quiet moments can scare me.

lately though, i've been in the practice of just being with people.
no expectation,
no forcing things just to fill the space.
just subtlety and nuance.
letting things emerge.

with lauren,
i started things out by asking her 'what says lauren to you?'
that started a conversation that i think really helped both of us.
things felt real.
she was her, i was me, and this is what we came up with,

lauren,
confident
beautiful
lovely
open
real.

and p.s., we took these photos at the muck in fullerton! a great place. they even have a ceramics studio. which lauren rules at.

I had a really lovely time with you yesterday Shannon. You've shot some beautiful moments. I feel really lovely and felt loved by you yesterday as you asked questions, listened, shot. Your acceptance of the invitation into being present in silence with people is just lovely, even if it feels scary. I enjoyed the silence yesterday......and the little clicks of the shutter. I feel you've captured a piece of my personality that I hasn't been captured on film before; I am certain your openness to me gave me the freedom and space to feel myself.

it was sitting there,
right where i left it when i got home,
i went to photograph it and realized my feet were getting in the way so i let them be in the photo.

who needs to take 10 deep breaths right now?
me,
that's what's up next in my day.
along with putting cosmo's birdseed into these glass jars i bought at ikea this morning.
dont worry though the birdseed is only a treat. he eats better than most humans.
salads and veggies and eggs.
you people are getting freaked out at him eating eggs but guess what eggs have?
protien! vitamins! love!

went to trader joes today after dropping off my lens rental at samy's camera. this is becoming a monday ritual, which i love.  makes mondays lovely, which they have the potential to be if you let them!

i noticed that i'm really picky when i pick out bananas, because i can't stand when they're too yellow.  so i forecast for the week and buy 3 or 4 or 5.... all with increasingly brighter shades of green so that they'll be perfect when i get to them.

then i noticed that i bought a red pepper instead of an orange like normal, which matched with the tomatoes, which faded beautifully to the apples, which made the real orange pop. which transitioned to the yellow bananas, which transitioned to the pear and finally the lime.

PRAISE HIM FOR POLAROIDS,
and yay for the color wheel which makes our lives so much better.
also a documentation of what i call my forest---- the flowers.

monday loves you, so love it back!
shannon

p.s.---- just remembered that i made a huge 10 foot wide heart out of fruit back in 2007! if you liked this, you'll love it. click. (old blog! photo of me three years younger!)

1) I like your blog/photography. I generally click the link to it when it's on my facebook newsfeed, though I don't know if I've ever commented before.
2) I do the same thing with bananas!
3) Your "forest" looks lovely, what pretty flowers, and fun, eclectic vases!

today brought me joy.
life and joy.
01_petdate.jpg
my friend kerry and i both finished the artist's way a while ago,
and we also both just adopted pets.

this was a big deal for both of us.
not just a random decision-----
it has affected deep parts of who we are.....
its affecting the spiritual and the emotional,
its healing identity issues,
its been a place to give and receive love,
a place to practice surrendering control,
and perhaps we should write a book about it because the list goes on.
lots has been stirring.

so we needed our pets to meet.

solution: pet date.
i brought cosmo over to her house,
she made us lunch,
and we had the best time.

both Hoss and Cosmo have gone through turbulence,
they both are pretty timid and are working through their own issues,
but both of them somehow lit up and loved their lives at the pet date.

neither freaked out.
i think they really like each other.
maybe partly because kerry and i like each other yet are very different.
it somehow just works.

-- so hoss folds his hands in a heart.  animal uniqueness is something i never really noticed until i got my own. kind of melts my heart, but still feels funny to be admitting it.
02_petdate.jpg
kerry!!!! you are the cutest.
03_petdate.jpg

ahh! hoss! YOU KILL ME.
04_petdate.jpg
05_petdate.jpg06_petdate.jpg

do we love his travel cage or what?? took me three cage purchases to discover this one. its so him.
(or so me.  which i am now projecting onto him.)
07_petdate.jpg

i love taking what you get with the self-timer. all awkward angles and expressions.  receive,
08_petdate.jpg

showstopper.

IMG_3596.jpg
blythe, emily and i photographed a wedding in northern california this weekend and double teamed it with a little vacation.  well, to me, vacations are when you eat out a lot, laugh a lot, watch TV in a hotel, and wear weird outfits because they're comfortable.

so even though it was technically work, we played.  somehow going to photograph a wedding never feels like i'm going to work though, which i love.
IMG_3605.jpg

happy monday,
i mean it,
monday is a day too!
love him!!!
