i got to be a guest!
i wore a dress, didn't have to bring my rolling suitcase full of gear, didnt' have to arrive 3 hours before the ceremony, no pressure to arrange people and be in charge and stay on the timeline. my only job was to enjoy. WHAT!!! it was kind of shocking. i normally wouldn't bring my camera, but knowing Danika and her style, i knew that i'd want to document.
it was a camping wedding.
in the hills of santa barbara, danika and adam were married under a tree on a campground.
they both have a heart for africa, so they incorporated a few african traditions into their wedding, including adam killing a lamb the night before for our wedding feast. yup! and i didn't intend for this to turn into an inspiration post.... i more wanted to remember my experience as a guest, but! you need to see this. they each had all of their family and close friends walk them down the aisle. revolutionizing the concept of a bridal party. in my opinion, its kind of weird to rank your friends in order of most favorite to least favorite and have them stand in a line in matching dresses. isn't that kind of an odd tradition we've come up with? this felt so much more real. so full of meaning. i liked how they were able to honor and celebrate all of the people who were significant to them. there was honestly such amazing energy when these groups of about 20 people were walking down the aisle, surrounding the bride and groom.
i really liked snapping a few photos from my seat in the crowd.
michelle mosqueda was the official photographer, and i'm so excited to see the photos she posts on her blog! check her out!!
enjoy these and be inspired to do what you want to do on your wedding day.
i called danika a forest goddess.
and, she made her dress.
masterpiece,
stunning, yeah?
