i woke up today at 10am, after staying up until TWELVE-THIRTY LAST NIGHT. so late! so late!!
did my centering, breathing time for an hour or two,
ate oatmeal and drank coffee,
then decided to go on an adventure walk to the post office.
i had to mail a few things, and chose to walk instead of drive the two miles.
i decided to use the time as my weekly artist's date for the book i'm doing called the artists way.

the book has you take yourself on a date once a week----- an adventure to explore something that interests you.  the post office DEFINITELY interests me.... its my favorite thing.  after the post office i went to heirloom, my favorite lunch restaurant in south pasadena, and THEN to my sweet cupcake for a dessert treat. my fave.  in addition to eating, i do have another hobby: finding amazing examples of horrible type.  it usually revolves around brush script: the sickest font to exist.  some people say papyrus is worse, but i would argue that brush script shows up on every street corner...... multiple times.  it oversaturates our lives with badness.

these two examples of bs were at stores directly next door to each other.
did they have the same designer maybe???
IMG_6943.jpg

you know its bad when they think that brush script should be in italics. gag me.
IMG_6945.jpg

on to pretty things: my chicken and pear salad.  increds.
IMG_6938.jpg
i ate my cupcake while walking home, which was a great experience, especially with my iced coffee that i also stopped to get.  i essentially supported all of the south pasadena businesses that i like in one afternoon.  best walk ever.
IMG_6958.jpg

my rule for taking pictures is to only take pictures of things that move me.  besides the food and the brush script, i also liked this--------------
IMG_6925.jpg

enjoy :)

Not everyone can go out by themself. I'm impressed. And I liked how you described your experience that day.
However, I've never been impressed with Heirloom's breakfast. I do hope their lunch is better.

today i pulled myself away from my pretty desk and the comfort of my own kitchen and went to the getty with rosanna.  we saw the irving penn exhibit, recommended by my friend brady.  unfortunately he lives all the way in new york, so brade---- you can live vicariously through us! it was incredible and SUPER SUNNY!  luckily i didn't burn my clearish white skin, even though i forgot to wear the ever-important sunscreen.

i was in the biola area yesterday and passed by my old apartment.  tropicana.  it's teal.  i have a whole section dedicated to it on my old blog.  with my new blog came my new living space, which i of course LOVE.... but trop had its quirks that inspired me for two years.  i shot one of my favorite engagement sessions there, had bird parties, got pets, bought my first groceries, and started my collection of dishes

these photos were taken at trop last year with my minolta autocord, which you can read about right here .  they are of our front porch, which had the best muse of a stick i've ever come across.  i think that every other polaroid i took was of the stick....the light and the stick, the shadow and the stick, people and the stick...... it was so pretty.

so, for you southern californians.... enjoy the rain today..... and enjoy these--------------------------

!!
i'm inspiring myself to go shoot medium format film!  a little spice.

In the 1st pic I'm trying to read her mind. The 2nd pic scares me. Finally, your narrative leaves me with questions: what coffee & what hairspray??

here's my bestie who also happens to photograph 99% of my weddings with me.  i couldn't do it without this girl.  the exotic, effortlessly fashionable, blythe hill.  those eyes, that smile, those tiny neon flowers on her shirt.  she moves me.

behind the scenes at a wedding, blythe does the following.
- makes sure we're on schedule
- makes sure i have the right directions
- goes to get us lunch
- goes to get us coffee
- makes sure i eat dinner
- gets me the correct lenses
- smiles at me
- does all of the detail shots of the reception
- ETC.
- she is incredible.
- and i love her hair.

i was going to post about how much i loved twirly sticks in jars, but decided to veer away from yet another pink house post and show you my friend blythe's rad party!  she sent me an email that said she wanted the food to be "cheap and easy, but tasty. preferably homemade, but keyword: easy." the perfect solution....... make your own grilled cheese!! SO easy.... just put out bread and cheese and butter (we added tomatoes and mustard for some spice), and we heated up 2 of those long grills.  i'm really into participatory birthday ideas, and this one ruled.  inspiration!!

so blythe turned 24, and the party was held in her grandma's backyard garden. we got the flowers from the LA flower market, people brought lots of great cheeses, she made sangria and checkerboard cake with sprinkles, and we loved our lives. enjoy these! parties dont have to be expensive to be fun!

mail4.jpg
i have SO MUCH ANTICIPATION as 1pm approaches every day.  when i hear the truck pull up and the metal mailbox open and close...... i secretly wait till the mail-lady walks down my steps and turns on her truck... and then i literally run down the stairs and hope for the best.

usually i just have bills, and what's up with wasting so much paper on ads?? but sometimes i have contracts from clients, which usually have a little hello note along with their wedding details.... but SOMETIMES.... i have fun visual loveliness that just rocks my world.  and i love it so much that i have scanned it for you to enjoy too.

the orange envelope at the top is from my friend marisa---- the card simply says: i know how much you love getting mail so i thought i'd send you this lovely card just to say, hi!'  who does that? made my month.

newsprint makes my eyes freak out in a good way,
mail2.jpg

the yellow is from ruthi, and the one with the tape is from my friend nate.  the one from nate is actually a birthday card from 3 or 4 years ago, it sits by my desk though, inspires me, and mesmerizes me in a really mysterious way.  that tape is drywall tape from home depot that is holding it up on my wall. one of my favorite kinds of tape.
mail3.jpg
the green is from kristen my pen pal, and the other is from my neighbor, val.
mail6.jpg
the hello is from my friend denise, and she left it blank and sent a 2nd card saying that she thought i'd think it was pretty so she didn't want to write on it.  thoughtful to the max----- she was right.  the other is from genevieve santos with le petit elefant, the girl who made my cardinal pet.
mail1.jpg

mail!
such a great part of life.
bold idea: maybe send a piece of mail instead of twittering today?
