our weekend essentially revolved around food, which was ideal.
lunch on the first day was at the ace hotel, which had an amazing menu (and by that i mean the design), super unique food options, and cute decor which included this elephant.

(fyi: sometimes i am shocked when i see myself in photos.................... weird!)

and ruthi mapped out the martha stewart architecture tour for us to visit on our way home. we love martha.

did my centering, breathing time for an hour or two,
ate oatmeal and drank coffee,
then decided to go on an adventure walk to the post office.
i had to mail a few things, and chose to walk instead of drive the two miles.
i decided to use the time as my weekly artist's date for the book i'm doing called the artists way.
the book has you take yourself on a date once a week----- an adventure to explore something that interests you. the post office DEFINITELY interests me.... its my favorite thing. after the post office i went to heirloom, my favorite lunch restaurant in south pasadena, and THEN to my sweet cupcake for a dessert treat. my fave. in addition to eating, i do have another hobby: finding amazing examples of horrible type. it usually revolves around brush script: the sickest font to exist. some people say papyrus is worse, but i would argue that brush script shows up on every street corner...... multiple times. it oversaturates our lives with badness.
did they have the same designer maybe???

i ate my cupcake while walking home, which was a great experience, especially with my iced coffee that i also stopped to get. i essentially supported all of the south pasadena businesses that i like in one afternoon. best walk ever.

my rule for taking pictures is to only take pictures of things that move me. besides the food and the brush script, i also liked this--------------

(10.30.09 @ 07:47 PM)I would have never thought to go on a self-date like this -- I'm inspired.
(10.30.09 @ 09:41 PM)i love the halo that the empty chair across from you created over your salad! and, that last one of the notebook paper edge is brilliant. brill. iant.
(10.31.09 @ 01:42 PM)Not everyone can go out by themself. I'm impressed. And I liked how you described your experience that day.
However, I've never been impressed with Heirloom's breakfast. I do hope their lunch is better.
love this! we should get together sometime, i'm also in pasadena! one of my fav places is elements, have you been?

SHAN! Your skin is so pale I can almost see right through you! It was 30 degrees today with 3" of snow and I still got more sun than you did ;)
(10.16.09 @ 05:47 PM)SL, Roshanna & you appears to bee 2 sides of the same coin.
(10.16.09 @ 06:18 PM)i had no idea there was an irving penn exhibit there right now! it's now even higher on my list. must go before it leaves in jan!
ps. cute pics. :)
these photos were taken at trop last year with my minolta autocord, which you can read about right here . they are of our front porch, which had the best muse of a stick i've ever come across. i think that every other polaroid i took was of the stick....the light and the stick, the shadow and the stick, people and the stick...... it was so pretty.
so, for you southern californians.... enjoy the rain today..... and enjoy these--------------------------
!!
i'm inspiring myself to go shoot medium format film! a little spice.
I miss Trop! I love the pink house but I miss/long for my childhood which seems to have come to an end in Trop 201. Thanks for the post.
(10.14.09 @ 10:54 PM)I miss it too. I was just thinking about laying on the floor in the living room listening to music. Aahhh so nice.
(10.14.09 @ 11:36 PM)oooo, I love the second shot! The composition/softness is pure awesomeness! :)

isn't she stunning?? this is my official Look At My Pretty Friends Week here at shannonleith.com

i am inspired by her outfits,
her coffee
her vocabulary
her stories
her mind
her family
her hairspray
her dreams.
In the 1st pic I'm trying to read her mind. The 2nd pic scares me. Finally, your narrative leaves me with questions: what coffee & what hairspray??
(10.09.09 @ 11:40 PM)Um. wow. Ro looks like a rock star in that first picture. So confident, bold, wonderful.

behind the scenes at a wedding, blythe does the following.
- makes sure we're on schedule
- makes sure i have the right directions
- goes to get us lunch
- goes to get us coffee
- makes sure i eat dinner
- gets me the correct lenses
- smiles at me
- does all of the detail shots of the reception
- ETC.
- she is incredible.
- and i love her hair.
omg her hair and eye colour are fantastic! she's gorgeous!
(10.09.09 @ 12:32 PM)i feel inspired to admire that photo we took many years ago; the one of all our faces smooshed together; displaying our oh-so-different colored eyes.
(10.14.09 @ 12:51 PM)
so blythe turned 24, and the party was held in her grandma's backyard garden. we got the flowers from the LA flower market, people brought lots of great cheeses, she made sangria and checkerboard cake with sprinkles, and we loved our lives. enjoy these! parties dont have to be expensive to be fun!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BLXIE!
I don't mind pics of The Pink House. It goes hand in hand with this blog.
The color on these shots is really something! My fav pic is your friend giving a speech to her admiring followers.
Shannon, thanks for the pictures. They make me feel as if I were there which is the next best thing to actually getting to celebrate Blythe in person!
