i need to tell you about this one. they got a map to see where to explore next, i was waiting for them off in the corner, thinking that i didn't like the lighting. then i reminded myself that there could be something here------- took this photograph, and then made them stay here for 5 minutes because i loved it so much. this type of thing always happens. i get stuck in my own comfort zones and then the world tells to break loose and change it up a little. love this image.

the getty villa was honestly such a lovely place for a fun day of exploration and relaxing.

p.s., just went to genny's facebook to post a link of this post..... and was inspired by her little side box. i love this girl. 2009 Goals: To be in nature more often. Hike more. Get a beach cruiser. Do more to help others. Read more books. Be a loving friend. Have a more "green" lifestyle. Eat lots of veggies. Solve crosswords in a more timely manner.

photographing kate and tim left me feeling nourished.
they are both wise and deep,
told me the world's best awkward-moment stories,
talked about marriage in a way that was honest and mature.
they know that it wont be perfect,
and they see it holistically.
agreeing to take both the good and the bad of the person.
all of who they are.
what a breath of fresh air.
literally felt like being fed.

romantic and elegant with their picnic of cheese and fruit and pellegrino,
carefree and fun with their skateboards and converse,
self-proclaimed apple geeks with their iphones.
i was able to take lots of deep breaths during their session. i love when they're like that. this was so them.

their session was just plain fun.
we went to the Rancho Santa Margarita lake and they had their picnic and then longboarded and skateboarded around the lake while i tried to catch up with them. :) so good! cannot WAIT for the wedding that is coming up!

alicyn is a style genius,
she found me through the grey likes weddings blog,
and told me when we first met that she has dreamed of having her turn for awesome photos!
it was so fun to get to give them to her!!
and lets talk about brian.
makes robots for a living,
loves alicyn like there's no tomorrow,
and is an all around amazing guy.
we went to the la brea tar pits for their engagement session,
which gave us so much to explore and experience.
SO RAD,

(fave to the max. energy and emotion are what matter, not technicalities like focus------)
FYI: alicyn likes astronaut ice cream so much she eats in in bed. this is one of the many reasons i like her. another reason is because she brought us each our own. points to the max! space dinosaur themed engagement session.................... SAY YES!
(i saved mine till the end so i could fully enjoy, and then photographed it for 15 minutes. the things that make me happy.....!)

where do i start with this one.
i'll start by telling you that something about the breakfast hour just moves me.
also, something about eating a meal together.... it moves me.
its my favorite thing.
my ideal date.
my favorite way to spend time with people.
therefore,
i love that becky and carsten decided to begin their engagement session at the king's road cafe in LA. a breakfast engagement session. so lovely.

i remember wondering if this was worth taking a picture of, which is a silly question to ask myself, but hey. here's my inner dialogue on display. and now its one of my favorites, which was inevitable i think.

here's a blast from the past,
my once a week fun look into sessions from a while ago.
alex and jane came over to my old apartment, tropicana, for their engagement session. i had the vision of that pool shot for months, stirring in my head. that's actually a polaroid, just the middle. i love it. i think i want to do more just-middles.

beth and todd:
they love deeply and honestly
and treasure each other in such a unique way.
usually the first inquiry for wedding photos comes from the bride.
it's usually an email with a brief synopsis of their location and date, asking if i'm available.
well, with beth and todd it was different----
todd called me.
i love that.
and he shared their entire engagement story,
everything from the sailboat he rented them to the moment on the cliff when he got the ring out of his backpack and proposed. i love engagement stories.... no matter how elaborate or simple (and theirs was ELABORATE!), they always move me. that big pinnacle moment.... its a big deal. and i love hearing about it.
anyway. so.
for their engagement session we went to their favorite park,
a place where they've walked and talked a million times it seems.
the familiar is so good.
